Long Distance Moving - Moving Tips
Here are a few helpful tips from NYC Mover - Imperial Moving & Storage to assist you with your long distance relocation:

 Gratuity
Like in many servicing professions, gratuity is always recommended. Imperial Movers will provide exceptional service for you and will do whatever necessary to get the job done as efficiently as possible. In order to show your gratitude at the end of the move, it is customary to offer a 15%-20% gratuity to the foreman, and he will divide the gratuity equally amongst the team.
Be sure that Imperial Movers will never ask for gratuity and you should never feel pressured to give a tip.

Give as much information as possible.
When getting an over the phone estimate, be sure to be as detailed as you can so that we can provide the best service possible on the day of your move. Imperial Moving Relocation Consultants want to ensure that the logistics of your relocation will be prepared well in advance. You will be asked to provide details such as the various types of furniture you have, how many boxes you estimate you will be moving, if you are in elevator or walk up building, etc…. Let the consultant know of any glass items, valuables, fragile pieces, paintings etc… you may have.
By having the necessary information upfront, we are able to prepare for your move and make sure that everything will be taken care of for you.

 Packing
Imperial Movers are experts in packing any item or your whole home. Our movers have years of experience in packing every type of household or office and have on hand all types of packing materials. Imperial Moving and Storage specializes in crating any type of furniture, so if you need us to make a wooden crate for a specific item, let your relocation consultant know in advance.
Many of our customers prefer the movers to completely pack and unpack their homes before and after the relocation. We prepare for this by having an onsite estimator arrive at your home for a free onsite estimate. The estimator will be able to give you a quote which will include the labor and packing materials needed. Furthermore the price of your relocation will be adjusted accordingly to the size of your home and the amount of labor and materials required.

 Department of Transportation
The New York Department of Transportation is the government agency which regulates all relocation companies in New York State. It is always a good idea to call the DOT before choosing a mover. Some moving companies who are not regulated may turn your moving experience into an unpleasant one, so be sure that your moving company has a licensed DOT number and that they are up to code on their safety regulations. Furthermore, you can call the Department of Transportation to find out more about what your rights are as a client of a New York based moving company. You can also check with the DOT if the moving companies that you are reviewing have any complaints.
The DOT telephone number is 1800-8765-DOT.

 Be Organized
We know that you want the day of your move to pass as quickly and efficiently as possible, The best way you can ensure of this happening is to have everything ready and organized prior to the mover's actual arrival.
Imperial Movers want to make sure that nothing gets lost during the process of your relocation so they will pack up all your loose items in boxes or in bins. If you do this yourself prior to the move, you will save time and the move will be less expensive for you. All items in your dressers and cabinets need to be unloaded and placed into boxes. If you have any questions regarding how to pack up your belongings, then feel free to call our office at any time. Any of our relocation consultants will be happy to help you.

 Binding Estimates
A written binding estimate is a contract in which the customer knows exactly how much he or she is going to pay prior to the relocation of their household or office. It is done by us sending a representative of Imperial Moving and Storage to evaluate the home or office that needs to be moved in order to determine the amount of time and what is needed in order to complete the relocation. Once the estimator has reviewed the home or office he puts together what is called a written binding contract and all aspects of the relocation are taken into account. The estimator will present a proposal of the binding estimate and you can go over it with him before agreeing to the terms and conditions listed therewith.
Many people prefer this method of contracting movers because there can be no way of incurring extra hours of labor once an estimator actually sees the household and offers an accurate price.

 Building Restrictions
Our liability coverage of $2,000,000 allows us to conduct relocations in any building in NYC. Nearly every commercial office building and many residential buildings in New York City requires insurance certificates prior to any work performed on their premises. In order to provide the necessary certificates of insurance to the building's management we will need from you their contact information; such as name of contact, phone and fax numbers. Imperial Moving also holds Worker's Compensation and Disability insurance which is sometimes required as well by the building's management.
Some building in NYC have restrictions as to the hours in which you can execute your move. Imperial Moving and Storage will work within the limits of those restrictions, but will need this information in advance in order to schedule the move accordingly.

 Payment
When choosing a relocation company, always check their accepted method of payment prior to the move.
We at Imperial Moving and Storage accept payments in Cash, Certified Check, Money Order, MasterCard, Visa, Amex, Discover.
