There are three options for Valuation or Insurance that only a licensed moving company can provide.
Basic coverage - $0.30 per pound per article
This is standard coverage which means that in the event of damage to any item, the customer is entitled to $0.30 per pound for that specific item. For an example, if you have a lamp which weighs 5 lbs which breaks, you will be entitled to $1.50.
If you receive a written binding estimate, then the coverage becomes $0.60 per pound. Additional Valuation
If the customer is interested in depreciated value for damaged items, then he or she must declare a total amount for the value of the entire shipment This is charged by 50 cents per $100 valuation. For example, if the entire shipment is valued at $5,000.00, the additional cost would be $25.00.
Full Replacement Value Insurance
If you have homeowners or Renters Insurance, then you can check with your company if they can insure your move. If not, Imperial Moving and Storage recommends Baker International Insurance and you can contact them at 1-(800)356-0093. They will provide to you full replacement coverage at a sensible rate.
** Certificate of Insurance **
Imperial Moving and Storage holds two million dollars worth of General Liability insurance, as well as Worker's Compensation insurance coverage. Most buildings in Manhattan will require insurance certificates prior to work be executed at the location. Make sure that the mover you choose maintains a sufficient amount of coverage for your building.
