Moving Tips

  • Gratuity
Like in any servicing corporation, the regular tipping amount is between 15% to 20%. You should never feel obligated to tip though.

  • Give as much information as possible
This is so you can get an exact price. If you feel that you are not sure about the amount of boxes, then over estimate. That way you can prepare yourself to pay more, but when the bill comes, you will be actually paying much less.

  • Insurance/Valuation
Movers need to insure your belongings at no additional charge up to 30 cents per pound. This means, if you have a TV that weighs 20 pounds, you are entitled to no more than $6.00,. If you want additional evaluation this is determined by the value of your goods. You decide how much your goods are worth and we will charge $5.00 per $1000.00 per that evaluation. So for an example, you declare that your goods are worth $5000.00, then we will charge $25.00 to cover it at depreciated value.

  • Packing
If you are looking to save, then we strongly recommend being packed. Usually the move can double if you want packing since movers need to charge for boxes. Imperial Moving never charges for materials to protect your furniture such as blankets and bubble wrap. If you want the mover to pack for you, always let the estimator know, so that you can get the right price.

  • Supervision
Don't leave your old residence until the moving company leaves. Its never a good idea to leave someone in your home alone.

  • Department of Transportation
Call the DOT before choosing a mover. Make sure that the company you choose is licensed and regulated by the DOT so that your moving experience will be an enjoyable stress free experience.

  • Organization
The best way to prepare for your move is to keep your belongings organized. If you have everything already packed up and all you have is boxes and furniture, then no matter how big your apartment will be, your move will be very quick and efficient.

  • Binding Estimates
No matter which Moving Company you go with, always try to get a written Binding estimate. It is always a good idea to know an exact price for your move rather then not knowing the cost until you have to pay it.

  • Building Restrictions
Check to see if your building has any requirements such as insurance liability or worker's compensation. Its better to prepare in advance so that there wont be any delays on the day of the move. Also, some buildings have specific hours during the day for usage of the elevators. Contact both building managements to find out when you can move in or out.

  • Payment
Always check with your mover how they accept payment. Imperial Moving and Storage accepts cash, certified checks, money order and any major credit card.
